Event Basics

When is the Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk?

The Suncoast East Coast Radio Big Walk takes place on Sunday, 17 May 2026.

What time does the walk start?

The 10km walk starts at 07:00 AM and the 5km walk starts at 08:00 AM. Participants are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before their start time.

Where does the walk start and finish?

The walk starts at Snell Parade with the holding area at uShaka Marine World and finishes at People's Park. Free shuttle buses will transport walkers between the start and finish.

Eligibility & Registration

Is there an age limit for the walk?

There is no age limit. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Children under 5 enter free when accompanied by a paying adult. Children entering for free will not receive a T-Shirt or Goodie Bag.

Can I register on the day?

We strongly recommend pre-registration online. Limited day registrations may be available at the venue subject to availability.

Can I walk with a pram or wheelchair?

Yes! The route is pram and wheelchair friendly. The beachfront promenade is flat and accessible.

Pricing & Payment

How much does it cost to enter?

Individual entries are R165.00 per person (early bird R145.00). Corporate entries are R165.00 per person with a minimum of 20 entries.

What payment methods are accepted?

Online entries can be paid via credit card, debit card, or EFT. Corporate entries can be paid by card or EFT online at the time of booking.

Pack Collection

Where do I collect my pack collection?

Pack collections can be collected from the Suncoast Globe on the following dates:

Thursday 14 May: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Friday 15 May: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Saturday 16 May: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Can someone else collect my pack collection?

Yes, someone else can collect on your behalf. They will need a copy of your ID and proof of payment.

Parking & Transport

Where can I park?

Parking is available at Moses Mabhida Stadium and surrounding areas. We recommend arriving early to secure parking.

Is there a shuttle service?

Yes, free shuttle buses will run from Moses Mabhida Stadium to uShaka Marine World from 5:30 AM to 12:30 PM on event day.

On The Day

What should I bring on the day?

Wear comfortable walking shoes, your event T-Shirt, sunscreen, and a hat. Water stations are available along the route.

Are pets allowed?

No, pets are not allowed on the route for safety reasons.

Will there be medical support?

Yes, medical personnel and first aid stations will be positioned along the route and at the start and finish areas.

Refunds

Can I get a refund?

There will be no refund in the event of an entrant not participating. We are however able to re-direct the payment to another entry, on merit of injury, serious illness or death in the family.

Closing Dates for Entries

When do ticket sales close?

Ticket sales for Corporate and Individual entries will close on 30 April 2026 or once capacity for the respective distances has been reached.

Distance Changes

Can I change my distance?

Distance changes can be done at Number Collection at a cost of R50 per entry. (Cash only)

T-Shirts

Can I change my T-Shirt size?

Sizes cannot be changed once you have entered.

Road Closures

Which roads will be closed on event day?

Durban Metro Police will close several roads for the safety of walkers. Please plan your route to the event accordingly.

From 04:30 until 12:00:

  • Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (south bound) from Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road to Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road.
  • Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (north bound) from Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road to Isaiah Ntshangase (Waliter Gilbert) Road

From 05:30 until 12:00:
  • Snell Parade from Athlone Drive to Battery Beach Road
  • Athlone Drive between Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Ave and Snell Parade
  • M4 (north bound) offramp to Athlone Drive
  • M4 (south bound) offramp to Athlone Drive
  • Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue (south bound) two lanes from Athlone Drive to Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road
  • All vehicles to go west upon Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Road
  • Battery Beach Road / Snell Parade [at the traffic circle] – Controlled access to the parking at the Mustering Fields.

Park & Ride

What are the parking and shuttle options?

We aim to get all walkers to the start with the least delay, so please arrive on time to avoid delay and disappointment. Also pay special attention to the time schedule below as well as the first and last bus times as applicable to each start. The event organisers will not be held responsible for those who do not plan accordingly.

Note: Special consideration will be given to walkers who are entered for earlier starts. Handy tip: To avoid delays, bring exact cash on-hand for parking on the day.

Option 1: Park at Suncoast (Parking area P2 only)
Parking is limited, first come first served, subject to availability. Normal parking rates apply.

Option 2: Park at the finish (Parking areas P1 and P2)
Park at Moses Mabhida Stadium, catch a bus to uShaka Marine World, start your walk to the finish. Return bus service has a time limit. Tickets available for purchase on morning of event at designated locations. P1 and P2 cost R30.

Option 3: Park at the start (Parking areas P1 and P2)
Park at uShaka Marine World, walk to the finish, catch a bus back to uShaka after. Tickets available for purchase on morning of event at designated locations. P1 and P2 cost R30.
